Tribute to Caillebrotte 2
This abstract expressionist painting was taken from one of Caillebotteâs sailing paintings of the late 1880s. Of course, it is not an exact reproduction. I added a few unique features.
Firstly, the morning sky is a bit strange in appearance. The paintingâs right side depicts a multi-colored sunrise, and the left has a surrealist feel with a predominance of deep midnight blues and blacks. Are the boaters sailing into an altered dimensional realm?
Secondly, the entire painting has a mist engulfing the placid sea and boats. Again, are the boaters unaware as to where they are heading?
Last note, without Gustave Caillebotteâs generous financial support to the early Impressionists like Monet, Manet, and Degas, Impressionism may never have survived.
